Kathmandu: The District Police Office, Parsa, has recommended filing cases against 41 individuals, including Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane, in connection with the misappropriation of funds from the Sanopaila Savings and Credit Cooperative in Parsa. The police have completed their investigation and submitted the report to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, Parsa.
According to the report, cases have been recommended against 30 individuals and 11 organizations. The police have claimed a compensation amount totaling approximately Rs 2.31 billion.
Among the accused, Rabi Lamichhane is alleged to be involved in the misuse of Rs 57.43 million, while former Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Chhabilal Joshi has been charged with misappropriating around Rs 32.24 million.
Lamichhane, Joshi, and Kumar Ramtel are currently in judicial custody, following an order issued by the Tulsipur-Butwal Bench of the High Court on Chaitra 22 (April 4). This is the fifth cooperative-related case filed against Lamichhane.
In addition to the cooperative cases, Lamichhane is also facing proceedings at the Supreme Court regarding allegations of holding dual passport. Investigations revealed that while still a citizen of the United States, he obtained a Nepali passport, which constitutes a violation of Nepali citizenship laws.
Lamichhane, who initially gained prominence as a television personality, transitioned into politics and later founded the Rastriya Swatantra Party.
